Clearing both your internet temp files and your Java cache just to make sure that any older game applets aren't interferring with your ability to play this new version.
Make sure you have the best version of Adobe Flash Player for your system. You can download that HERE.
Note Adobe's disclaimer - You may have to temporarily disable your antivirus software in order to download this application. If you need to uninstall a previous version, it is strongly recommended that you use the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller available on that site.HERE is a quick link to that page.
Remember to enable Flash in your browser and to add permissions to any Flash blockers you may have. Pogo's Help has some instructions HERE that may help (the article was written for Puck's Peak, but the same Flash suggestions may apply).

In addition, if you have an older PC, you may want to try lowering the Flash Quality setting for Word Whomp.
To do this:
1) Load Word Whomp
2) Right click anywhere on the game. You will see a menu box.
3) Choose the "Quality" option, and select "low".
4) If the game plays better for you you can also try "medium" quality
