Since Pogo themselves found Mod _Skratty's Tips good enough to refer people too i thought I'd repost them here.
REMEMBER! Do NOT refuse all trades with any player, bot or human!! You can avoid the problematic game freeze by saying “No” when the game asks if you would like to ignore all trade offers from Computer_X.
Note: You can still opt not to trade when a bot asks you.
It is that easy!

Some Other Techie Tips
- Make sure you start with freshly cleaned internet and Java caches.
- Check to see that there is only one version of Java on your computer. There was recently an update and if you didn’t manually uninstall the old one, you’ll have both (or more) versions on your computer.
- Shut down the nonessential programs (IMs , emails, background scanners, et al)
If you have had a problem with freezing in the past, in addition to the above tips, try to select a room that isn’t as busy and make your table private (whether you play with humans or bots) so that players leaving and/or entering don’t upset the apple cart. - The biggest reasons folks freeze or get booted are the internet connection type (dial-up is going to be tough, no doubt about it), the age/memory of the computer, and some sort of Java miscue – make sure you optimize what you can.
- For those using the latest version of Norton, you can right click the icon (near the clock, lower right of screen) and put it on silent mode for the amount of time you're planning on playing Monopoly. When you right click and choose Silent Mode, hour options then come up and select what would be appropriate for your expected session. This is only if the player is indeed shutting down all other programs, otherwise it can be a computer threat (and remember to turn it back on when finished).
- You might want to play with three friends and agree upon a game where no one buys anything – this will keep the animations to a minimum. You should also check the Speedy Dialogs button to reduce time spent on those animations.
- If you’re playing against the bots, consider playing under the Custom tab and set your table with the following criteria:
*3 bankruptcies till game over
*No turn or time limit
*No limit on houses or hotels
*Uncheck Auction unwanted properties
