Concerns With Pogo Posts on Facebook
Greetings Editor,
I read with interest the letter posted by Claire. I, too, greatly dislike my every move on Pogo automatically being posted to my Facebook wall.
When the link between Pogo and Facebook first became an option, I opted in because I enjoyed sharing my mini. I often use it as my profile picture. And I do like that badges I earn can automatically be posted because, aside from being a teeny source of pride *g*, I want those posts to be positive advertising for Pogo. There was a time when I was prompted to update my information to allow Pogo to automatically make those posts. I was pleased with that.
So, imagine how surprised I was a couple weeks ago when my husband looks up from his computer and tells me I just posted that "I love playing MONOPOLY Here and Now: World Edition." I was quite irate, actually. For starters, I had no idea that Pogo was posting something every time I played a game (felt like Big Brother in my bathroom, if you get my meaning) and secondly, the statement, "I love MONOPOLY" is an outright lie. I despise the game. I will persevere for a badge (had to try three time for that darn thing!) but otherwise, I never play it.
I proceeded to my wall and deleted the offending post and then changed Pogo's status so that it always needed my permission to post. I didn't really want to go that far, but I saw no other way to prevent Pogo from posting my every move.
But the plot thickens! You recall I mentioned that I enjoy sharing my mini. I made a new one for Halloween which I wanted to share with my FB friends. When I tried to post it, the message told me that if I wanted to post this, I had to allow Pogo to (once again) post every time I take a **hmm**. I reluctantly accepted because I wanted to share my mini but then I had to once again go in an delete automatic posts. As fate would have it, naturally I was still working on that darn MONOPOLY badge (lol!)
In a last effort, I went back to My Account to see if there was some other option in the link between Pogo and Facebook and found there was none It seemed that my only choices were All, or Nothing.
Please, dear friends at Pogo, can you find some way to set up the link so that we have more options in what gets automatically posted and what requires our permission
Perhaps something like "allow a post whenever I earn a badge" or "whenever I 'like' a game" or "ask permission to post my Mini". Please find it in your hearts to remove the automatic posts that tell whenever I'm playing a game. Who knows, perhaps I will suddenly read on my wall "*Pogo Fan* is writing a letter to the Pogo Editor!" Eep! LOL
Thank you for hearing me out!
All the best to you!
Leah
Editor: Thank you so much for you letter. Your communication style regarding this matter is appreciated.
We did change a few things around fairly recently, and thus, you do see a few more posts regarding your Pogo-doings than you did before. However- please note that there is a throttle... you'll only get the "So&So Loves Whatever Game" message posted to your Facebook feed once per 12 hours. So, you can activate the Pogo Facebook feed, and simply make sure that you before you do anything, you play a game you love first (which we should do anyway to get us in the Pogo mood).
I spoke to the producer for the Facebook feeds, and he wants to assure everyone that we are looking at how we can best fine tune what gets posted and what doesn't. We are currently facing some challenges around this, and while we definitely want to allow the user much greater flexibility in what gets posted, it may not happen right away.
He also said: "I really do appreciate the feedback and we are continuously improving upon the social networking experience. I promise we will take a look at this at our next planning meeting next week. We do have a lot of items that we have to juggle because our team is fairly small but we will take a look."
